Mechanical swivel bending machines are also machine tools for processing sheet metal. Unlike hydraulic swing bending machines, however, they are not driven by a hydraulic drive unit but by mechanical forces. A mechanical swing bending machine uses mechanical leverage to generate the bending force. The workpiece is held between the bending tool and a stop while the tool pivots to bend the sheet. The pivoting motion of the tool is driven by a crankshaft, which in turn depends on a manual or electric drive force. Mechanical swivel benders are generally simpler and less expensive than hydraulic swivel benders. However, they are usually limited to a lower bending force and may not be as versatile as their hydraulic counterparts. Mechanical swing benders are often used in smaller shops or DIY applications because they are suitable for lighter-duty applications and take up less space. They can also be useful for certain manufacturing applications, such as prototyping or making smaller components.
